What Truth by deltay What Truth by deltay
What am I supposed to do when it's all a lie
Where am I supposed to go when it's dark outside
What am I supposed to do when it's all a lie
Lie to me, lie to me, lie to me, lie to me, lie to me
Lie to me one last time

I like this concept - finding truth among all the lies. It's something I think is a journey as well as a part of daily life. I also think I'm discovering that you eventually have to find your own truth.

I like the focus, it's very crisp. I also like the use of the grid paper. It's not distracting, I think it adds to the photo because of the slight addition of color. And I like the lies being in a pastel, perhaps denoting that they're sometimes hard to see.

Sorry if this critique seems a bit fru-fru, but I think praise goes a lot further that a harsh critique. I do like the piece, though. Good job.

Neat idea but right now I think it is saying the opposite of what you said it was in this comment you wrote to another commenter:
"Those words weren't the concept in my head, it was more of the fact that lies are often brighter, more gaudy and screaming for attention (thus the brighter colours) versus the simple truth which is often in the middle of a cloud of lies, in plain sight, but harder to observe sometimes among the other lies clambouring for attention. "
Right now the word "Truth" is too bold so it comes of as saying that "the truth stands out among the lies." If you made the word "Truth" a bit more faded and a gray color than it would fit your quote perfectly. Good composition and nice use of the lies blurring into the distance.

i very much associate the colors you chose with the concept of the image. It's nice to see that maybe there is more truth out there than first meets the eye. Thank you.

I like how you wrote the lies in pink, makes it look softer. A lie is always easier to swallow than the hard truth ;P

Well I like this concept, the fact that lies are often brighter and more attractive than the stark truth--but the beauty of art is that it's up to interpretation and I can also see this as "Find the truth among the lies" which seems to be a theme right now that our country is going through. I think it's an excellent abstract piece. =D

This is VERY powerfull! I cant make critique, due to that i aint a member.. But i will anyways let out my thoughts here..

I think it is a very nice idea, very simple, but the choose of the colors is very powerfull. I like that you have used black as the truth, because it makes the word shoot out from the whole picture.
I cant figure out if i like og dislike the fact, that its so simple. I would have liked something more conceptual, as i think that it could be a very easy solution of letting out a thought.
But you still manage to make it different, with the angel, the choose of color, of paper and lightning and the thought behind it, is kind of obvious.. So overall i will say it's a decent photo!

If you thought my critique was unfair can you please reply to my critique and explain why you thought it was unfair? This may help us both. Me in giving critique and you in thinking about your photo :D

Whoa, hold your horses there, I haven't taken any action yet (just got on). ;) On the other hand, you seem to be anticipating that I'll find it unfair?

I wouldn't say that it's unfair, but I do feel that you kind of misinterpreted the concept I was going for here.

"What this really shows is that you need to learn how to think deeper about a concept when you've come up with one. What we see in this photo, is basically exactly what was in your head at the time, writing those words on the paper."

Those words weren't the concept in my head, it was more of the fact that lies are often brighter, more gaudy and screaming for attention (thus the brighter colours) versus the simple truth which is often in the middle of a cloud of lies, in plain sight, but harder to observe sometimes among the other lies clambouring for attention.

"So if you want to reproduce your thoughts, that's fine but it's not very creative.
Creative thinking means that you start with a concept and just let your mind flow. A good exercise is to make a wordweb while brainstorming associations for your concept. You'll notice that this also helps to focus your own thoughts on the concept, making it clearer, more specific and often a lot more personal."

Don't worry, I know what creative thinking is. ;) It's also a personal process that needs to be reached different ways for each individual, in order to be creative.

So while the critique itself was decent, it was just a misinterpretation of the concept here, of going back to basics and showing it with simplicity. The whole "rules made to be broken" concept, kind of like in writing, when writers break rules after they comprehend them.

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts, I'm sure you'll help many others! :)

Great picture :). I like the concept. For me the photo represents the lies of the world, which are sometimes colorful and better than the truth. Sometimes is better to lie, because the truth is hard to swallow. I think this represents the symbolic of the colors, doesn't it?

The truth is sometimes harder to believe than a lie. Or in this case, lies. Great interpretation, thanks

Well, I wanted to go reverse of the typical (black with one word/image in colour) and pink happened to be the first colour I grabbed. ;)

Haha, curiosity is good! Especially since it probes deep thinking into the idea behind the photo, especially in conceptual shots.

The black was always there, it was just the colour that I chose at the last minute, as pink (it could've been anything else) ;) Sort of the idea of lies being flamboyant and colourful, bright and attention-attracting, whereas the truth is often simpler, more traditionalistic. Not quite so gaudy (in this case, simple black ink).

Thanks for reading into it; makes conceptual photos so much more worthwhile ;)
